We’re Sheena and Adam, two Appalachian natives who found each other — and quickly discovered that food is our love language.
Sheena grew up in Southwest Virginia, Adam in Northeast Tennessee, and we now call Johnson City, TN home. Since meeting in 2018, our relationship has been seasoned by shared meals, kitchen adventures, and a deep appreciation for the flavors that shaped us both. It started with a home-cooked meal Adam made during one of Sheena’s particularly hectic weeks at work — a simple gesture that said everything.
Since then, we’ve traveled widely and eaten eagerly, but what we always come back to is cooking together in our own kitchen. The Mountains Are Cooking was born from that joy — and from a desire to celebrate the rich food culture and heritage of Appalachia. From heirloom recipes passed down through generations to fresh takes on regional classics, we’re here to explore it all.
